The $200 Dinner...2003-04-07 - 11:54 a.m. This sucks. First I get up and drive 2 hours to get to work because there's an inch of snow on the ground and apparently people in northern Illinois have no idea how to drive in snow, and then I finally get here at like 8:30, and our e-mail system is down so there's pretty much nothing to do. So far today I ran a 4 minute meeting at 9:30, and surfed the net. Plus I'm so fucking tired, for absolutely no reason, that I just want to go out to my car and nap with the heat blasting on me. So last Friday, Bunn and I went out to dinner. We went to The Melting Pot. It's a fondue place. We were there for 3 hours. It was a great evening. I didn't care for our waiter. He was like 19 and trying to recommend wines for us. Mind you - everything he was recommending was like $75 - $130 a bottle. Now Kurt and I like wine, but we're not into spending the cost of a meal on a bottle. We settled on a nice Zinfandel which was $32. Well, $64 if you consider the fact that we had two bottles, but I digress. Started the meal with cheese fondue. It was gruyere, and emmenthaler cheese with garlic, nutmeg, and a shot of kirschwasser (cherry brandy). They served it with different kinds of bread, celery, carrots, and apples. The apples and the bread were the best. Then we had salads, then the main course. It consisted of filet, lobster, shrimp, pork tenderloin, chicken breast, teriyaki marinated sirloin, salmon, and pot stickers. Have I ever mentioned before that Kurt's a huge fucking schiester? Somehow, and I don't exactly remember how because of the wine, but he ended up getting a free additional lobster tail. Don't ask; I don't know. Let's just say that nothing went to waste. By the end of dinner, I was full and basically just took over the cooking, and gave it all the Kurt. Then came dessert. Melted milk chocolate swirled with Bailey's. Served with strawberries, pineapple, marshmallows, pound cake, bananas, cheesecake, and brownies. So after dinner Bunn took me for a ride down his memory lane. We drove through his old neighborhood where he grew up, and he pointed out things as we went. BTW - I'm really enjoying being carted around in his new ride. It's fun to be the passenger sometimes. LOL We got back to my house around 10:30 or so. Started watching tv and passed out. I woke him up and sent him home a little after 2. I got up Saturday morning and putzed around the house for a while. Then remembered I had to go pick up my new trial contacts at the eye doctor before noon, so I jumped in the shower and took off. Didn't feel like going home after that. I decided I'd call Janina and see if she wanted to go out for lunch. She did. Ugh... She still way not over the Randy break-up, and spends a lot of time male-bashing. Don't get me wrong... I'm all for good-natured male-bashing, but she's pretty serious about it, whereas, I merely dabble. I'm rather fond of the gender as a whole and would rather live with than without them. So anyway, after sitting through lunch hearing how horrible Randy is, (not that he's not, but to hear her tell it, she knew none of this going in...) I decided I still wanted to drive so she and I went for a ride to go look at Kurt's house. What a cruise. He must really like me cuz I wouldn't drive that route on a regular basis for many people. I'd do it for him of course though... ;-) So after that, I dropped Janina at home and tried to go home to nap. Didn't work. Bunn got there around 6:30. That was wonderful. I was too warm, and he was freezing from standing outside at his youngest son's baseball game. He stripped and crawled into bed. We headed out around 8ish for to go see Otto & George (comedy ventriloquist) at Zanies in Vernon Hills. The show was awesome. He (they?) were hysterical. All in all not a bad weekend. Only downside is this PMS or whatever the fuck is going on with me. I almost had to call-in to work Friday. Couldn't stop crying all the way to work. It came and went all weekend. Well, till Sunday anyway. I was fine yesterday, and fingers crossed, I'm fine today as well. Bunn's more than a little tired of it. (Yes, that's a gross understatement) I'm going to call the doctor to go see what can be done this week. I understand Bunn's frustration, but it's not exactly a picnic for me either. Hasta! Looking back... Just Pix - 2005-02-08
