I'm Home Again.2003-08-25 - 8:08 p.m. It was definitely a bittersweet trip. We took off Wednesday morning around 4:30 and drove till we were about an hour past Atlanta. Stopped for the night around 7, the kids and Kurt swam for a little bit, we had dinner, went to sleep, and got up around 3 the next morning and hit the road around 4:30 again. Made it to Marco Island about 2 in the afternoon. We stayed at Kurt's grandmother's condo with Kurt's brother in-law and niece. (Grandma's in a nursing home. This is the one who turned 100 last month.) So Kurt went to see his mom alone Thursday afternoon for a couple hours. They had a nice visit, and when Kurt asked her where I could get my nails done (my thumbnail broke way far down, was too short to pull off, and was catching on everything), his mom picked up the phone and made and paid for an appointment for me the next morning at 9 a.m. After Kurt got home from his mom's Thursday evening, we all went to dinner at the Snook Inn which sits right on the water. It was a great night. Friday we got up, went and had my nails done, went back to pick up the kids, went grocery shopping to get crap to make fajitas for dinner, and headed to mom's... She was great. She was in her chair in the kitchen with her oxygen hooked up when we got there. The boys both went up and hugged her, and then she reached out for me to hug her too. She was very frail; not at all how she looked in the pictures I'd seen. We got along great. Get this - she loves watching The Food Network and cooking! Saturday we went back to his mom's around noon. We had lunch, swam, visited with his mom, and then got ready to leave. The kids and I flew back Saturday around 8 from Fort Myers. I think it was the saddest goodbye ever. Kurt even lost it, and he was only driving us to the airport and going back... I really wish I could've stayed longer and spent more time with her. Getting kinda sad now. Combination of thinking about how much time his mom has left (doctors gave her about 6 weeks about a week ago), and missing Bunn. Hasta! P.S. Sorry, Melanie, for thinking that guestbook entry was from you - I looked at the wrong IP address. I should've known it was Cholak. Gets confusing though since he's got about 20 different IPs... I tried to sign the guestbook with this, but it wouldn't let me - said I was trying to sign again "too soon". Fuckers. Looking back... Just Pix - 2005-02-08
