R.I.P., Kathy2003-09-15 - 6:23 p.m. Kurt called me Friday night around 5:30 to tell me his mother had passed away. He said that hospice had been there earlier and said that she was hanging on to life and seemed to be "waiting" for something... Well that afternoon they brought her mother to the house from the retirement home to see her. They held hands and "visited" for a bit. Then all the kids who were there at the time went into the bedroom, they said what would be their final "I love yous", and as Kurt was holding her hand, she passed. Kurt was obviously not doing well when he called me, but everyone pretty much seems to agree that it was best that she went quick. She had no "quality of life" the last few days she was alive. I was thinking about Kurt today and realized that he's really had a pretty good life so far. He grew up with two loving parents, had a good childhood, has four half-siblings, and a sister - all of whom he gets along with pretty well, and two great kids. His boys and I leave for Marco Island tomorrow morning. We were going to stay in his grandma's condo, but with all the sibs there at once, we're now staying at a hotel. I can't wait to see him. I'm nervous about meeting the rest of his family like you can't fucking believe. Do you think he would think it odd if I asked him to stop at the local tavern on the way home from the airport? So we leave tomorrow, and we're ALL coming home Sunday morning, so I won't be updating for a while (not that I have been that much lately anyway).
